The West Midlands is gearing up for what promises to be a fantastic week of squash for the region. The World Squash Masters is coming to Birmingham from 20-27 July in what will be the largest squash participation event in the world.

The magnitude and strength of squash in the region is highlighted by the hosting of this high profile event, which has attracted over 750 players from 46 different countries and promises to provide a thriving, multi-cultural atmosphere for our world masters.

The prestigious Edgbaston Priory Club and the University of Birmingham will be flying the flag for Birmingham. The University of Birmingham’s Bramall Auditorium has been chosen to host the showpiece final, and will provide a spectacular venue for the glass show-court. The event will also be held at England Squash & Racketball’s Club of the Year, Solihull Arden Club, and West Warwickshire Sports Club, offering a dream four host venues for players and spectators alike.

The event will be sprung into life with an exhibition match on Saturday 21st July at 7.30pm between World number 1 James Wilstrop and Indian number 1 Saurav Ghosal, which promises to be an exciting encounter that will represent the very highest playing level of squash. James Willstrop is one of the most naturally gifted sportsmen and is currently in the best form of his life, a run of three back-to-back tour victories at the end of 2011 saw him reach the number one spot for the first time. A Shot and A Ghost, the proclaimed autobiography documenting a year in the life of James Willstrop, will be available to purchase all week, with the opportunity to meet James and get a copy signed straight after the exhibition in the Bramall auditorium. The exhibition is open to all players, family and neighbouring clubs and players, entry is free and doors open at 7pm. There is no need to pre-book, just turn up on the evening!

So why not get involved with this fantastic event on your doorstep? You will be experiencing a world class sporting event that is full of excitement, class, and culture, and what’s more, the event is totally free! There will be free entry to all events across the four venues throughout the duration of the week. Come along to one of the four venues and see what the World Squash Masters has to offer you.
