Racketball came to Lilleshall Squash & Racketball club in grand style recently as West Midlands regional coach, Darren Lewis, hosted a series of training sessions culminating in a knockout tournament for LRSC members on 2nd March.

Around 16 LRSC members were involved in 3 training sessions over two to three weeks where they were taught the basics of Racketball progressing from training routines through to competitive games.

Last Wednesday, 2nd March, saw 14 of the original 'students' enter the final tournament competition.

This event, organised by Darren and colleague Luke, was well organised and a lot of fun to be involved in. Competitors got to play 3 or 4 matches leading to the final.

Paul Evans takes up the story … "All matches (incl. the final) were played against a fixed timeframe (20 mins). In the final (between Colin Still and Adam Slater), at the end of normal time, the score stood at 1 game each and 9 all in the third game. The match result was decided on a sudden death rally (i.e. point) which Colin won, Adam making an unforced error during the last rally. Well done to both finalists.

A great competition, very strenuous and tiring, enjoyed by all - followed by the obligatory celebrations, and drowning of aches and pains, in the bar.

A great start of what will be an annual club competition and club Racketball leagues"
